Teaching the class

This picture has nothing to do with this post. It just so HOT here I wish I was there. So I get a letter from my Bishop, would I be willing to take 5 to 8 minutes in the 5th Sunday lesson, and teach whatever the Spirit wants me to teach? You bet, but could I please have 20? No, 5 to 8. There will be other High Priests teaching. I prayed for a topic, the great Talk "The Balm of Gilead" by Elder Boyd K Packer came to mind. It starts this way "My message is an appeal to those who are worried or restless or anxious, a plea to those who are not at peace. If your life is touched with disappointment, grief, or bitterness; if you struggle constantly with worry, frustration, with shame or anxiety, I speak to you". I hope I can do it justice in 5 to 8 minutes. It was in the New Era Aug. 1979, get a copy read it, learn from it, it could change your life. Well a least it's a great talk. I'll let you know how it went. Larry

Happy Fourth of July!!!! Please lets work on getting better people in Washington, we need people more like our founders and less like Moa. Help keep the U.S. strong. Get them all out and start over. GONE FISHIN' 2

This has been harder than I thought it would be (gone fishin'). I just thought in today's world any thing you can do would help others. I'm a house painter, I work at a major hotel in Vegas as their only outside painting engineer. Sometimes I get temps to help me. So I know how to paint things and make them look good. I found a guy in the area I thought would love to learn to paint houses, and earn some money for his family. But he thinks I want him to paint my house, so were still working on it. He speaks Spanish, I don't, but I know people that speak both, so maybe there's hope. I'll keep trying, I know something will turn up. I don't need my house painted, I'm a house painter. On an other note I've started using an other swear word, it involves a Rat, and someone born out of wedlock, I use it only when I talk about those Ah's in Washington. We need to get them all out of office and put people in who have integrity and know and LOVE the Constitution. Please make your voice heard, and get GOOD people in these position. Yes I'm grumpy, but for some strange reason people like me, I know I can't figure it out either. Be safe, Larry

GONE FISHIN'

If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish he feeds himself for a lifetime. We all have talents we can use to help someone improve their lives. I think that helping people is very important, but just giving them money, food, or what ever helps only in the short run. Someone you know needs help for the long run, and you can help! I don't know how, but THE LORD does and he will help you know who and how. So come on a FISHING TRIP with me and teach some to "fish". The country, and world will be a better place. So just do it! You'll love it, you know you will. Thanks, let me know, Larry

Gray area

What is right for some and wrong for others? When is breaking the law alright? I don't have an answer, but I do have gray areas. I don't always follow the law of the land, mostly I drive to fast. I also swear to much, I was fired from teaching in Sunday school because I swear to much in class while I was teaching. I'm a very good Gospel Doc. teacher, at lease I was told I was by alot of people. If right is right and wrong is wrong, why do we as people melt the two together? When is gray O.K.? I would like to think we will always have the right to do as we please. I think we need laws, both from God and man, but I think our gray areas should be smaller. I'm working on mine,it's pretty wide. Think about making yours smaller. We all have them. Talk to you all soon.

TWO THOUSAND STRIPLING SONS

I love the story of the stripling sons. I often think about these 2000 young men who would very willingly give there lives for the freedom of their families. In the book of Alma we read this"And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all-they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted. Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of GOD and to walk uprightly before him." I think this is a true lesson in parenting. Their Fathers had made an oath with God that they"never would shed blood more" (Alma 53:11). In Alma 53:13 we read "But it came to pass that when they saw the danger, and many afflictions and tribulations which the Nephites bore for them, they were moved with compassion and were desirous to take up arms in the defence of their country". They were stopped by the persuasions of Helaman and his brethren. In verse 16 we read this," But behold, it came to pass they had many sons, who had not entered into a covenant that they would not take take their weapons of war to defend themselves against their enemies", so as many as were able got together called themselves Nephites and took up arms. I think that the parents of these young men must have had some fear, but they were willing to let their boys go to war for the liberty of the people. They must have some droughts when the boys would play war. The young men had to be taught how to fight sometime in their life. Maybe there was a school that taught them how fight. This is parenting at it's best, they let their young men choose for themselves the way of life they would go. The young men had been taught the truth and were willing to give their lives for the liberty of their brethren, because their Mothers had taught them well. I know it's hard to let our kids choose for themselves, but isn't that how our Father in heaven teaches us?

fear shouts so loud

It"s General Conference Sunday so this will be quick, but I love this quote "Sometimes fear shouts so loud in our ears it drowns out our Faith" What do you think?

"And I was Afraid"

We read these words in matthew 25:25, "and I was afraid", and in matthew 25:26 we read these words,"thou wicked and slothful servant".

Fear is Satan's most useful tool, I think, it's so easy to be afraid. We fear the things we don't really understand. We fear we are not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough, not rich enough, the list is endless. With fear comes weakness, gossip, harsh words, anger, the truth becomes an after thought, darkness, slander, greed, this list is endless. One thing I know for sure they are all things Satan loves. Fear and darkness are his goals for mankind. Moses 4: 3 "Satan sought to destroy the agency of man". Without agency we have no light, no power over evil, no courage, we become pawns for the evil one, we have no liberty, we become afraid!
In alma 46: 5 -16, is a story we all know, I hope you will read and ponder it. It is about a brave man, a man of GOD, who was not afraid. He raised his "title of liberty" for all to see. He had light, truth, power, and God on his side. I hope we will not let fear hold us back. Raise your " title of liberty" for all to see.
What do you think. How has not being afraid helped you? Love to hear from you. Larry

I told most people I know that I would never have a phone like an iphone. Well I lied, I've got one. It's way cool. What does this have to do with this blog? It has a note book app. and I have been keeping my thoughts about this blog, and Satan's tools on it, and I have so much good stuff, and goofy stuff, I have to seperate them. This will take another day or two. I'm working on it, I'm very slow. So don't give up, I got some really good stuff to talk about. You can email me at larry@thegrumpymormon.com . You can't do the Lord"s work with Satan's tools

I think about this alot. You can't do the Lord's work using Satan's tools. It can never work. Think for a while about the Lord's work using the devils tool belt. Which tool do you use? Which would you never use? Is one better than the other? When do we turn to Satan for help? WE Pray to God for Blessings, yet do we as mortals listen more to Satan's promptings. These are questions to ponder, I will tell you what I think in the days to come. And I want you to remember this, I pretty much know everything.

This is hard

As I get older and wiser, I remember why I don't like to put things in written form. #1 I'm a bad speller. #2 I would rather talk to a group of Ph.d's, Lawyers, Doctors, English Major's or anyone else about a subject that I have no idea about, than put my feelings in writing. #3 I'd rather which T.V. There are alot more, but you get the idea. This is hard for me. Yes I know about spell check. So does this make me a farmer, chicken,or eagle? I've never been a chicken, at least in my mind. I think today I'm a farmer with an Eagle on my arm pecking at my head. I'm trying to make the climb, I think I've taken a big step for me. So stay tuned, and wish me luck

Which are you?

Take some time to think about this. Are you the farmer, chicken, eagle, or something else. Be very honest as you think about that question. What do each mean to you? I'll let you know how I feel about them tomorrow.

Fly with the Eagles!!!

Well, I have been deep in thought lately and wanted to share this little story with you. "There was an Eagle living in the barnyard with all the chickens. They would just walk around all day and peck the ground. The farmer came to the Eagle and said "Eagle you are not supposed to be here pecking with the chicken, you are meant to soar high in the air and the farmer put the Eagle up on a tall fence post and said "soar Eagle, spread you wings and fly" but the Eagle just hopped down and started pecking with the chickens again. So the next day the Farmer came out to the barnyard and there was that Eagle pecking the ground with the chickens. The farmer said again"Eagle you are not supposed to peck the ground you are meant to fly high in the sky and soar" So the Farmer took the eagle to the very top of the multi story barn and set him on the roof and said fly Eagle fly and the eagle spread his wing and just went down to the chickens and started pecking the ground. The Farmer was getting very frustrated so he got up really early one morning and went and got the Eagle and walk up the mountain. It was a long hard hike but they made it to the top. The Farmer was exhausted and said to the Eagle "fly Eagle fly...soar like the other Eagles." It was then and only then the Eagle looked up high into the sky and saw the beautiful blue sky and all the tall green trees and could smell the fresh air and he jumped off the cliff and he flew and he soared and it was a beautiful sight"
The moral of this story is don"t get stuck with your nose in the dirt and look up and remember who you really are. God intended you to soar and fly high and succeed in this life. So keep your head up, look everyone in the eyes and smile, spread your wings and fly high. Never ever forget who you are and what your potential is and what we are expected to do with it.

What I know today

This is what I know for sure today. We all need to thank THE LORD for the blessings we recieve every day. We should ask for HIS SPIRIT to help others feel safe, warm, and know he will be there for them. The world is a scary place, HE will help us get though the hard spots, if we ask.
